The New York Section of the American Water Works Association was founded in 1914, and hundreds of water professionals are in Rochester for a three day conference to mark its anniversary.

The Association's mission is to provide education and training to ensure the highest quality water is delivered to New York State residents.

Daniel Seaver is chair of the Associaton.

Seaver says the event features over 120 vendors showcasing their products to make sure municipalities can supply the highest quality water.

There will also be educational training for operators and engineers.

Chair of the Association, Daniel Seaver, says public water systems face a number of challenges such as infrastructure financing, and keeping computer systems that control pumps and water treatment plants secure.

He says those so-called "supervisory control and data acquisition" or SCADA systems, are at the heart of the control of a water distribution system, so they're important

According to published reports, the Monroe County Water Authority is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to upgrade its SCADA system.

The Association's conference runs through Thursday.
