Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero is urging boaters to be cautious on Canandaigua Lake due to floating debris, which has been caused by recent storms.
He says boaters are urged to operate their vessels at no more than 5 miles per hour within 200 feet of shore on Canandaigua Lake.
The sheriff says that his deputies have seen debris below the surface of the water, mainly tree limbs and logs that present a danger if a boat hits them.
Povero says the lake is also very murky due to runoff from the recent rains and boaters are urged to wear a personal flotation device at all times.
