Some local Brits are reacting to England’s vote to leave the European Union.

The Old Toad English-style pub and restaurant recruits students from England each year.

Telford, England native Zach Botfield says he was shocked to hear the results of the vote.

“I knew it was going to be close, but I didn’t think it would sway that way, and I woke up this morning to BBC news, adds on my phone popping up saying Britain have left the EU, and I was shocked,” he said.

Since the referendum isn’t legally binding, Botfield is hoping Britain will stay in the EU.

Liverpool native Samuel Beirne works behind the bar at the Old Toad.

He calls the results of the vote ridiculous, and has major concerns about the economic future in England.

“From me working in the U-S, it’s going to help me in the short span because I’m going to use my dollars to get more pounds, but in the long span, there’s going to be less jobs, less economical infusion from outside countries into the UK, and things like that, so it’s not going to be great,” he said.

Both Beirne and Botfield feel that the it was the younger generation in England that wanted to ‘remain,’ while it was the older generation that voted to ‘leave.’

Beirne was able to vote to "remain" by absentee ballot.
