Architect Who Designed The Liberty Pole And The Mushroom House Has Died

A well-known local architect has died. The Democrat&Chronicle reports that James H. Johnson, whose work included the Mushroom House in Perinton and the Liberty Police in downtown Rochester, has died at the age of 83.

The paper says Johnson died on February 2nd.

The 190-foot stainless steel Liberty Pole was built in the 1960s. The Mushroom House, near Powder Mills Park, consists of five elevated pods. It was built in the 1970s.

A memorial service will be held February 11 at Temple Sinai on Penfield Road.
