There is another  company that wants to start up a medical marijuana operation at the Eastman Business Park.

This firm is called Columbia Care, and it’s a New York City based business founded by two former Goldman Sachs executives. They have signed an agreement with Kodak to repurpose a building at the business park that previously was used for film manufacturing and finishing.

Columbia Care says it has created one of the largest national medical marijuana patient registries with data from more than 20 states.

Michael Alt, the Director of Eastman Business Park says  they support Columbia Care’s application.  He says they also support another medical marijuana proposal for the business park put forth recently by an organization called “Great Lakes Medicinals.”  In fact, Alt says he hopes both proposals are successful in getting a license from the state.

Overall, there are more than 40 applications from companies that are vying for the five licenses that the state is expected to award over the summer.

Other proposals for local sites include one by Compassionate Care Centers of New York, which wants to set up in Newark, Wayne County.  And a company in Wolcott called Butler Evergreen also wants to have operations in Wayne County.

The state expects to have the program operational by next January.
