t's time for those who qualify for Medicare in the new year to enroll for 2014.
The deadline for signing up is December 7.
With so much to consider, Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield is offering some tips for enrollees who have yet to choose their health plan. Heather Smith is director of Medicare sales at Excellus. She says out of pocket cost is certainly foremost on the mind of most people. "Premiums are certainly a big factor in deciding which plan is best for you, but under the premiums are really the benefits. We always make sure that we counsel each person. Look at your unique situation. How many times do you visit your doctor? How many specialists do you have? Typically, do you see yourself at a hospital stay once every five years or once ever two years, etcetera."
Smith says for more individual guidance, you can attend one of the dozens of free Excellus Medicare informational sessions scheduled for the Finger Lakes region this week.
