3 People Die In Penfield Mobile Home Fire

Three people died in a fire in mobile home in Penfield early Monday morning. It happened at the East Avenue Manufactured Home Community on Fondiller Avenue near Route 441.

The fire broke out just before 5:00 a.m.  There were nine people in the home at the time.  Two adults and an eight  year old  boy died in the fire.

Penfield Fire Chief Chris Ebmeyer  told Time Warner Cable News  it appears the boy went back into the trailer to try and help one of the adults get out.

“The child was the first to awaken to the fire and he was able to alert the other six individuals that made it out that the trailer was on fire, and from what we understand it looks like he might have tried to help a disabled gentleman in the rear bedroom, and he was possibly going back to try and help him get out"

Deputies have identified the boy as nine year old Tyler Doohan. He did not live at that home but was visiting relatives. The adults who were killed are identified as the owner of the mobile home, 57 year old Louise Beach, and 54 year old Steven Smith.

Four adults and two children, ages 4 and 6, were able to escape the flames. They were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, and may be related to an electrical problem
