2 Natural Gas Leaks: Rochester & Canandaigua

Area utility crews were busy handling two separate natural gas leaks in our region Tuesday morning.

One of them happened on Farmington Road not far from Merchants Road in Rochester. RG&E officials say that a contractor disrupted a 2-inch natural gas line.  Firefighters evacuated School 52 and two additional houses.

Students were immediately walked over to St. John Neumann School on Empire Blvd., and then bused over to East High School, where parents were able to pick them up. Students were also being taken back to School 52 by 1:00 p.m.  Crews continued to work on the gas leak during the morning.

And in Canandaigua, there was a natural gas leak in the Eastern Boulevard area near the Auto Zone store. There was no disruption to service in the area and no word of any evacuations, and that situation was repaired by 10:30 a.m.
