142 Part-Time Bus Jobs Being Eliminated In Rochester

An Illinois-based transportation company is cutting 142 part-time jobs in Rochester.

Durham School Services had been providing busing services for the Rochester City School District for students with disabilities. But the company declined to bid on the contract when it went out to bid last October.

Company spokesperson Molly Hart released this statement:

"Upon review of our current business development priorities elsewhere in the U.S., and the operational challenges we faced in Rochester including a shortage of bus drivers, Durham made a strategic decision by opting not to respond to the RFP.”

Hart says Durham is trying to help the affected drivers and bus monitors find jobs within the company and she says some of them are going to stay with the school district with the new vendor.

RCSD spokesperson Chip Partner says there will be no interruption in service for students who previously used Durham. He says another qualified provider is in place to transport those students in the next school year.
