New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has filed criminal charges against 10 employees of the Blossom North nursing home in Rochester. Schneiderman says it has to do with the investigation into their treatment of a nursing home resident. He says a hidden camera placed in the patient's room, revealed a disturbing pattern of pervasive neglect.
Schneiderman says the victim was a double, above-the-knee amputee who also suffered from partial paralysis and other health problems. The investigation was conducted by the state attorney general's office at the request of the victim's son, who became suspicious that his father was being mistreated. His father later died.
The attorney general says the hidden camera revealed that both nurses and nurses aides routinely ignored their duties, including failing to dispense medications, and leaving the patient with no hands-on care for entire shifts. Officials say the nurses and aides also are accused of falsifying documents in an effort to conceal their neglect.
They are facing a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges. Blossom North is associated with Blossom South. Blossom South is going to be closing because of care issues.
