Unity Health System Opens Memory Care Senior Living Community

Next week, Rochester will be home to a new senior living community  specifically designed for adults with Alzheimer's disease and Dementia-related diseases.

"We’re proud to offer the most comprehensive range of elder care in the region with a variety of services," says Don Felter, President of Unity Senior Housing.

After 9 years of planning and 2 years of construction, the Memory Care Community is ready to house residents. It's part of the Unity Hospital campus.

New Facility to Serve At-Risk Youth

Officials from the Villa of Hope cut the ribbon today on a new respite care center for high-risk youth.  Canterbury Place, at 115 Canterbury Road in Rochester, will serve children aged 5 to 17  from Monroe County and surrounding areas who are high-risk and in need of programming to sustain the family unit.

Cause Determined For Dying Fish In Irondequoit Bay

Scientists with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation believe they know what's been responsible for the death of hundreds of fish in Irondequoit Bay.

Biologists with the state agency say the death of  the fish, mainly a species known as 'gizzard shad,' which is a member of the herring family, is likely due to a virus. It's called ' viral hemorrhagic septicemia’ or 'VHS.'  Officials say that is a disease that only affects fish, and does not pose any threat to human health.

Local Elementary School Sets National Fundraising Record -- for the 15th Consecutive Year

"It takes heart to be a hero."  

Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraising effort by the American Heart Association to teach children the importance of physical activity while helping to raise money for heart disease research and prevention.

Wednesday, Rochester's French Road Elementary School will officially be named the top fundraising school in the nation.
