The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is encouraging citizens to report distracted drivers.
Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn says the new Citizen Campaign was designed to help prevent potential tragedies. Nationwide, distracted driving contributes to as many as 8,000 crashes everyday. Citizens can report a distracted driver by visiting the county's website and completing a form that asks for a description of the car or license plate number.
Distracted driving is still a top concern in Rochester.
46 percent of drivers surveyed admitted to texting while driving in the past month.
The Ad Council of Rochester surveyed 1,000 drivers and observed more than 11,000 motorists at nine intersections throughout the city during morning and evening rush hours.
President and CEO Todd Butler says Rochester's rates of distracted driving are higher than in neighboring cities where similar studies were conducted.
