Zion House Eyeing Avon Inn

zionhouseavon.org

A church in Avon that specializes in helping female veterans is looking to expand.

The Reverend Kelly Ayer directs Zion House, which is a transitional living home offering case-management support, VA services, a work rehabilitation program and a computer lab.

She says it's been her dream to offer permanent supportive housing, and that could happen with the acquisition of the historic Avon Inn, which recently closed just down the street.

"We've been working on a plan to get apartments so we can get folks transitioned and on firmer foundation to be in permanent housing successfully."

The Reverend Ayer says the Avon Inn already has five apartments, and they could use those immediately.

But acquiring the historic building would be expensive.

The Reverend Ayers estimates it will cost about $4 million dollars to buy, renovate and equip the Avon Inn with the services and programs offered by the Zion House.

In addition to a gofundme.com account, she says people can help by visiting the Zion House website or by buying products produced by their store operated by female veterans.
