Young Rochester Musicians Touring Europe

hochstein.org

"This is going to be something these kids will remember for a very, very long time."

Casey Springstead is director of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra, a group of young  musicians from about 20 schools in the Rochester area.

While mainly comprised of high school students, there is also a 6th grader in the group.

Springstead says they'll be performing in three concerts in Austria, at some prestigious music halls in Vienna and Salzburg.

"We're hopeful that we play as well as we possibly can, so that our Austrian audiences know what an American Youth Orchestra is capable of."

Springstead adds the youth orchestra members are also seeing and learning from some historical and cultural landmarks in Austria and Germany.

"We just saw the burial plots of Beethoven and Brahms and Schubert this morning, all in one place, at a beautiful cemetery just outside of Vienna. And that really drove home what a capital of western music Vienna is, and Austria in general."

The Hochstein Youth Orchestra's European Tour runs March 29th to April 1st.
