Yankees Great Mariano Rivera To Headline Next Press-Radio Club Dinner

wnyc.org

A big "get" for the folks who book the headliner at the annual Rochester Press-Radio Club Day of Champions Dinner.

The organization announced today that Yankees legend Mariano Rivera, one of the best relief pitchers ever in baseball, will be at that event, May 31st, at the Riverside Convention Center.

Rivera spent 19 seasons with the Yankees, finishing his career in 2013 as Major League Baseball's all-time saves leader with 652, to go along with an 82-60 won-lost record and a 2.21 earned run average.

He is expected to be a first-ballot selection to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown when he becomes eligible in 2018.

Rivera will receive the local club's Coca-Cola Sports Personality of the Year Award, and will be joined at the head table by other sports figures.

The event is a fundraiser for children's charities and Rivera is also heavily involved in numerous philanthropic causes.
