Xerox HQ to stay in Connecticut with new agreement

Xerox will keep its headquarters in Connecticut for a while.

The Connecticut governor and other officials announced Friday that Xerox has pledged to keep its Norwalk Headquarters and in turn, Connecticut will lend the company $4.4 million over 10 years.

As part of the deal, Xerox may add 20 to 40 jobs over the next four years.

Xerox now employs about 150 people in Norwalk. The loan from the state will be used by the company to buy equipment and make improvements at the headquarters building.

Xerox is getting ready to split into two businesses, one focusing on document technology, which will still be called Xerox. And another company called Conduent, focusing on business services. That company will be headquartered in New Jersey.

Xerox was founded in 1906 in Rochester as the Haloid Company. Most of the company’s local employees work in the document technology business.
