Xerox Announces 48 Layoffs In Webster

Xerox says it is laying off 48 people who work in Webster as of Aug. 29.

The company is closing its Supplies Distribution Center there, and cutting 42 hourly positions and six salaried positions. The hourly positions involve workers who are members of a union.

Xerox also announced it is closing a similar supplies distribution center in Cerritos, California, and cutting 39 positions there.

The company issued this statement about the layoffs:

Xerox continues restructuring activities as identified in the 4th and again in the 1st quarter earnings announcements.  These restructuring activities affect all parts of the company, including warehouse operations in Webster and California. Business today requires greater flexibility and the need to remain competitive. We continually review our operations to find those ways. As a result we are planning to close our consumable supplies warehouses in Webster and Cerritos and partner with a third party logistics provider to manage those operations.
