WXXI's Second Opinion Program To Explore Ebola Issues

The death of the first United States-diagnosed Ebola patient has heightened concerns about Ebola across the country. 

In an effort to gain a better understanding about this infectious disease and to give audiences a chance to have their questions answered Second Opinion, produced by WXXI, the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), and West 175 Productions, presents “Special Edition: Ebola”, Thursday, October 16 at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV and a live call-in radio show Second Opinion LIVE “Ebola” on Friday, October 17 at 1 p.m. on AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, WEOS-FM 89.5, and online at WXXI.org/listen. 

In Second Opinion "Special Edition: Ebola", airing on Thursday, October 16 at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV, American missionary worker and Ebola survivor Nancy Writebol, with her husband David at her side, will share the story of some of her darkest days as the disease ravaged her body. Travel medicine doctor and vaccine expert Mark Shelly, MD from URMC and an infectious disease doctor will use Nancy’s case as a springboard to discuss disease transmission, diagnosis, treatment, drug and vaccine research and development, and what the Ebola crisis in West Africa means to its citizens, and to America. 

The special episode will tape on Tuesday, October 14 at 1 p.m. and can be watched live online at SecondOpinionTV.org. During the taping, web viewers will be able to tweet in questions and comments on Twitter using@SecondOpinionTV with hashtag #2ndOp.  

On Friday, October 17 at 1 p.m. on AM 1370 , WRUR-FM 88.5, WEOS-FM 89.5, and online at WXXI.org/listen, Second Opinion’s Elissa Orlando invites a University of Rochester Infectious Disease Expert in studio to answer questions about Ebola from people calling in or tweeting. Listeners can call in their question at 1-844-295-TALK (8255) and online viewers watching the radio show at SecondOpinionTV.org can tweet their questions using the hashtag #2ndOp.
