World Renowned Violist and Member of the "Surfing Godzillas"

The 40th Annual Viola Congress opened this week at the Eastman School of Music. The Grand Opening Concert included a performance by Nokuthula Ngwenyama.

Ngwenyama is a busy touring recitalist, orchestral soloist, and chamber musician, and she plays in a Japanese rock band called the “Surfing Godzillas.”

She also has a Masters Degree in Theological Studies from Harvard, which does relate to music, as you can hear in her conversation with WXXI’s Mona Seghatoleslami by clicking on the audio player above.

The 40th Annual Viola Congress continues through Sunday at the Eastman School of Music.
