World-class skatepark for downtown?

roccitypark.org.

The City of Rochester has put out a Request for Proposal for a designer of a new urban skatepark for downtown.

The City, along with the group Friends of Roc City Skatepark, is seeking qualified consultants to provide plans for the design and construction of the park.

President of the group, Alan Presutti, says after eleven years, they may soon finally get their wish for a world-class urban skatepark.

The goal is to provide a skatepark that would be free and open to the public for skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX and other sports.

"There is no legally sanctioned place within city limits for people around here to participate in these things," he said. "Right now it is banned anywhere within the Inner Loop.  So the fact that it is a growing, popular activity these days, we need to provide a space, in my opinion, for these people to go to."

It would be built in the area of South Avenue and Woodbury Blvd.

The deadline for proposals for the urban skatepark is August 17th.

The proposed skatepark would cost around $2,000,000.
