Wintry Weather on tap by the end of the weekend

The weekend is starting out with mild weather, but it will end with a wintry scene across much of Upstate New York. We saw a record high of 72 degrees on Friday.

The high early Saturday will be near 60 with some rain showers. Those will turn to snow showers in the evening.

On Sunday, the high will only be in the mid-30s with snow showers and gusty winds. Snow may accumulate a couple of inches on Sunday, but with lake effect snow, there could be 5 to 9 inches of accumulation by Monday night in parts of Monroe, Livingston and Ontario Counties where lake snows are the most persistent.

There is alake snow advisory for those counties from 1:00 a.m. Sunday to 7:00 p.m. Monday.

There is alake effect snow warning for several counties to the east, including Wayne County, as well as counties south of Buffalo, with 10 to 20 inches of snow possible in some of those areas.

Driving may become difficult at times in some places, with winds gusting up to 40 miles an hour as the snow falls, causing visibility problems.

The weather system is expected to calm down by Tuesday, with the forecast calling for a high in the 40s by mid week and a chance of rain on Thanksgiving day.
