Is the seemingly endless winter taking a toll on your patience and good mood?
You're not alone. Dr. Aaron Black, a Rochester clinical psychologist, says nearly everyone he speaks to has become winter weary. "Certain kinds of depression are related to helplessness. I think what happens is that when the weather pounds us like this, it's such a force outside of our control. When it goes on long enough, the kind of internal helplessness that we feel becomes really pronounced."
Black says it's important to get together with friends and family during times like this and make sure you don't become isolated. He says it's also a good idea to get good physical exercise to beat the winter blues, even if that means bundling up and going outside.
