Officials with Windstream have announced some staffing changes in Rochester due to the company’s recent merger with EarthLink.
The company says it will cut about 50 jobs over the next three months, mainly in positions that are in corporate support departments, such as finance, legal and human resources.
Windstream says the staffing moves follow a detailed review of the overall functions at EarthLink and an effort to identify redundancies. Affected employee will be able to apply for other open jobs at Windstream, and there will be severance benefits.
Moving forward, Windstream expects to have around 900 employees in Rochester.
The Arkansas-based telecom also named a number of executive positions, including John Dobbins, who will be executive vice president of access. He is currently an executive with EarthLink and will report to Windstream CEO Tony Thomas.
About four years ago Windstream moved onto the former Midtown Plaza site. EarthLink has had a facility at Monroe Avenue and Alexander Street.
Shareholders approved the merger on Friday. The transaction is expected to close early next week.
