Wildfire Deaths Hit Home Among Local Firefighters

Jul 1, 2013

Local fire officials say they all know the fire service is a dangerous job, and tragedies like the one in Arizona this makes local firefighters see the dangers of their job more closely.

19 members of an elite firefighting team died near Phoenix battling wildfires.

Lt. Edward Kuppinger is Public Information Officer for the Rochester Fire Department.  He says the tragedy certainly brings home the dangers even to those who do it everyday.

And while their hearts are very saddened by what happened there, local firefighters will be showing support to those who lost their lives, their families, and the communities the firefighters served.

He says Rochester Fire Chief Sam Mitrano will reach out to the firefighters and communities affected by this.
