Wegmans "Wonderplace" to Open at Smithsonian Museum

Wegmans has donated $1.5 million to support a new 1,700 square foot children’s learning space at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

“Wegmans Wonderplace” will open December 9 in a new Innovation Wing at the museum devoted to inspire and educate children 6-years-old and younger.  The opening will help Wegmans usher in the company’s 100th anniversary in 2016.

Children will be able to “cook” in a Julia Child-inspired kitchen; run a farm stand and plant and harvest pretend vegetables; and play on a replica of a tugboat designed on a model found in the Smithsonian’s collection.

Wegmans is also involved in the Smithsonian museum’s new demonstration kitchen, part of a food history project starting this summer.

The Rochester-based supermarket chain will provide fresh produce and culinary experts for monthly demonstrations.
