Wegmans pharmacies offer flu shots for kids age 5 and older

Wegmans says its pharmacies are now offering flu shots for children ages five and older, with no appointment or prescription necessary.

The supermarket chain says that move follows Governor Cuomo’s directive to increase the accessibility of the influenza vaccine for children and families. Wegmans says adult flu shots are also available.

The Executive Order signed by the governor recently suspends a section of state law that limits the authority of pharmacists to administer the vaccines to anyone under age 18.

Flu has hit many states hard including New York, with more than 52,000 confirmed cases of the illness since February 3rd.

The most recent numbers show that Monroe County had 2,326 confirmed cases as of January 27th

So far there have been  nine deaths attributed to the flu in the county this season.
