Webster Village Board Approves Switch to Monroe County Water

After a three year debate which was very passionate at times, lawmakers in the Village of Webster have voted 4-1 to do away with the village's own water system and switch to the Monroe County Water Authority.

Mayor John Cahill says some residents are fearful that the conversion means he intends to dissolve the village.   He says that has never been his intent.

Cahill says once the switch takes place, Village of Webster residents will have water that is three times softer.  "There will be a 10-cents per thousand (gallons) increase in the water rate, but they will no longer require water softeners and they'll get much longer life out of their fixtures and appliances, also."

The transfer could take place in the next 60 to 90 days following an application process with the Department of Environmental Conservation.
