Webster in the Running for Millions in Economic Development Funds

A 10-million dollar initiative designed to spur economic development in small towns and cities has named Webster as one of 50 quarterfinalists in the national competition.

It's called the America's Best Communities" challenge, and Matt Chatfield from the Webster Coalition for Economic Development says various corporations have made available a top prize of 3-million dollars in an effort to improve economic development within a community.

He says Webster has a lot going for itself.

"It's in a great location in Monroe County, good access to the center city of Rochester, we're a growing marketplace with plenty of young families and young children, and a fabulous school district," Chatfield said.

The town has already received 50-thousand dollars as a quarterfinalist, and will now work with its corporate partner, Xerox, on  the next stage of the competition.

That includes developing a unique, sustainable and achievable business growth plan.

The town of LeRoy, Livingston County and Norwich in Central New York are also quarterfinalists in the national competition.
