New York Army National Guard Maj. Eric Fritz of Webster is now the commander of Company B of the 642nd Aviation Support Battalion based on Long Island.
The change of command ceremony took place Saturday morning at Islip MacArthur Airport.
Fritz is a CH-47 Chinook helicopter pilot and Afghanistan veteran.
The unit provides logistics and maintenance support for Army helicopters.
The battalion has elements on Long Island, Dunkirk and Olean in addition to its headquarters in Rochester.
