Weak Gains In Latest Jobs Numbers For Rochester

The latest numbers from the NY State Labor Department show some increase in employment in our area, but the numbers are still relatively weak compared to the gains we were seeing last year.

The Rochester Metro saw an increase of 200 private sector jobs in March, compared to March of 2012.

There were 900 more government jobs.

State Labor Analyst Tammy Marino tells WXXI News that at least we reversed the drop in jobs we've seen the last few months, with the recent gains happening generally in private education and in health care.

She says the manufacturing and construction sectors have seen some weakness so far this year.  Statewide, New York added just over 14,000 private sector jobs in March. The state's unemployment rate was 8.2 percent, down from 8.4 percent last month. Rochester's unemployment rate for March will be released next week.
