His is a sound and a style that influenced some of the greatest names in music - Muddy waters, Robert Johnson, Bonnie Raitt, Mick Jagger and the list goes on. And his is a story as complex as the man himself. The late blues legend Eddie “Son” House is known as Rochester’s adopted son. He arrived in the city back in 1943 by way of Mississippi and he called Rochester home for more than 20 years. As our community celebrates his legacy in a special 4-day blues festival, we learn more about the man and his music through his old friend Joe Beard, another talented blues musician based in Rochester.
