Warren Defends Decision To Hire Bodyguards

City of Rochester

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is defending her decision to have two bodyguards, one of whom is her uncle. She talked about the issue Thursday on Connections with Evan Dawson on WXXI.

There has been some controversy over the fact that Warren has a two person security detail. Combined, they make about $140,000  a year and one of them is her uncle.  Warren notes that her uncle is a retired State Police investigator with 30 years experience  who has provided security for three governors.

And she also notes that there have been comments on social media from people who don't think she should be mayor, and she says there are some serious problems in the community involving bigotry.

"Some of the (comments), whether it's on Facebook, or Craigslist, or comments on the D & C website, I have a three year old daughter at home, I want to be around for her, and after the fact, we can also say we should have, could have, would have. "

Warren also notes that the hiring of the two security men are temporary appointments and that the jobs will be posted.
