Officials with the Rochester Housing Authority want the community to be aware of search engine ads that can be misleading when people search for information on 'Section 8' on Google.
RHA officials say they have become aware of ads that lead people to sites not related to the Rochester Housing Authority or any official Section 8 website. Those sites ask for personal information and charge fees for what appears to be a Section 8 application.
RHA has alerted Google to the issue hoping the company will take steps to remove the sites from Google Search.
In the meantime, officials say those applying for Section 8 housing assistance can go directly to the RHA site at www.rochesterhousing.org, call RHA's waiting list call center at 585-697-6114 or email waitinglist@rochesterhousing.org
RHA will be accepting applications for the Section 8 program until midnight on September 26th.
