Six local school districts are partnering with the University of Rochester's Warner School to bring classrooms into the digital future.
The National Science Foundation had awarded the partners $3 million for a project to help train teachers to provide digitally-rich instruction. That means teaching in a classroom where students use mainly laptops and tablets to learn material and complete assignments.
The University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education will train twenty teachers over the next five years who will then go to schools in East Irondequoit, Geneva, Newark, Dansville, Penn Yan, and Auburn.
The project focuses on helping schools use more technology and digital media to teach science and math in elementary and secondary schools.
This is the third round of grants awarded to this project by the NSF since 2010. By 2020 the Warner School expects to have prepared a total of 32 teachers.
