A candlelight vigil was held Friday evening outside the Public Safety Building in Rochester for the family of Officer Daryl Pierson, and also for police officers and their families. Pierson was shot and killed Sept. 3 while on duty.
Partners Behind the Lines, a group started by spouses of Rochester police officers, held the vigil, which comes just before National Thank a Police Officer Day, which is Saturday.
Amy Pierson was among the hundreds that were there. Her husband Daryl was shot and killed Sept. 3 while trying to make an arrest on Hudson Avenue.
"Daryl was the hero and I'm proud to be his wife," Amy told Time Warner Cable news.
Pierson said the sisterhood has helped her through this difficult time.
"You could feel the love in the room and so many people cried, and I mentioned in the eulogy coming down the line, I could see who were cops' wives because they all had the same look on their face. There's a definite sisterhood there," Amy Pierson said.
After spouses stood and recited the spousal police prayer inside, the group of husbands and wives then walked outside and stood in front of the fallen officer's memorial, where candles were lit in Pierson's memory.
