Veterans Connect with Employers at Annual Job Fair

Alex Crichton

Up to 500 veterans were expected to attend today's 14th annual Veterans Job Expo, presented by Bank of America and the Veterans Outreach Center.

Over 100 employers were represented at the event, presenting over 1500 job opportunities.

Allen McLiverty is with Harris Space and Intelligence Systems.

He says their employee base is at least 10 percent veterans, and they possess many qualities employers are looking for.

"Perseverance, the ability to overcome and adapt to every situation, the never ending desire to take the hill in a business situation or in life."

Army Veteran Donald Masten of Rochester agrees that veterans bring many qualities to the job that employers are looking for.

"They have discipline, they have high skills, they put their life on the line, they're at your back.  Yeah, they've got many, many skills, many skills."

New this year at the Veterans Job Expo is the introduction of an online employment tool called vetMploy, which connects registered users with company profiles and job listings over a secure network.

Here's Nena Siverd from the Veterans Outreach Center talking about today's event:
