Rochester School Superintendent Bolgen Vargas says that a situation involving students upset about their lack of consistent teaching has been resolved.

Some students in the 8th grade at School #9 actually went to YouTube, posting a video of the students pleading with the superintendent to fix the problem.

The students said they had two different teachers in their Spanish class, and a number of substitutes, and they worried they were not learning what they needed to.

Vargas says there is now a teacher in place who will be able to take over the class, and he's glad the students made their concerns known.

"I’m very proud because they are concerned about their education and it should send a message to us, as a district, that our students are willing to learn, and when they are ready, we should respond"

But Vargas says the problem really should have been handled at the school level, and didn't need to rise to the level of the superintendent having to be involved.

"This situation didn't need to go this long, they didn't need to come to me, this is something that could have been resolved at the school level, but I'm very happy to say that we have resolved the problem.”

Vargas says one problem has been that it is a small group, and the class is not allocated a full time teacher, but he says that is no excuse and he's glad the district can now provide some stability.
