Vandalism Breaks Historic Stained-Glass Window At A Penn Yan Chapel

TWC News

PENN YAN, N.Y. (AP)  Authorities in the Finger Lakes region are seeking the public's help in finding the person who broke a chapel's historic stained-glass window.

Officials at the Garrett Memorial Chapel in the Yates County village of Penn Yan say someone threw a large rock through the window last Tuesday to gain access to the building's interior. The window dated back to 1929, when it was created by the renowned artist Frederick Wilson. It was appraised at $25,000.

A company specializing in stained glass windows is working on how to best preserve the remaining window and to determine if it can be restored.

The chapel is located on Bluff Point on the northern end of Keuka Lake. It was built by the Garrett family, owners of what was once one of world's largest wine producers.
