Utilities Say They Can Meet The High Power Demand

With this week's heat wave it has been several days of heavy electricity demand with all of those air conditioners running. But locally, Rochester Gas and Electric, says it has been able to meet the near record demand for power.

Spokesman Dan Hucko says the utility is not telling customers they need to reduce their power consumption, but he says conservation is always a good idea.

"At this point, it's totally voluntary, we hope people will always conserve energy,  and use energy wisely, but right now we have not asked any of our customers to curtail their energy use."

And a spokesman for the New York Independent System Operator, which regulates power distribution around the state, also says they have been able to meet the high demand for electricity.
