U.S. Treasurer To Attend Seneca Falls Forum On The New $10 Bill

A top federal Treasury official comes to Seneca Falls Monday to hold a town hall style meeting to get input on a new $10 bill.

The forum is being held in the Finger Lakes after a push by Senator Chuck Schumer, who said Seneca Falls is a good place to discuss which American woman should be on the new $10 bill because of its natural symbolism when it comes to women’s rights.

The forum is being held from 1 to 2 pm at Wesleyan Chapel, where the original 1848 Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention was held.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Treasury Department said that it plans to unveil the redesigned $10 bill by 2020 and it will hold several town hall meetings around the country to help decide who should be on it.

The Treasurer of the United States, Rosa Rios will be at the forum. Among the women already suggested to be the face of the new currency, Harriet Tubman, who helped lead slaves to freedom and lived many years in Auburn, and Susan B. Anthony, a leader of the suffrage movement who lived in Rochester.

Schumer has not said who he would like to see on the bill, only saying that he is hopeful a New Yorker will be on the currency.
