U.S. Attorney's Office Announces More Than A Dozen Charged In Major Heroin Operation

Law enforcement officials are still seeking one Rochester suspect in connection with a heroin distribution ring out of Philadelphia. Authorities say the case involves the trafficking of large quantities of heroin being moved from Philadelphia to Rochester.

Police arrested 13 suspects, and recovered over 20,000 individual bags of heroin, according to U.S. Attorney William Hochul.

"But as successful as that operation was, there is still one individual that is being sought by law enforcement in conjunction with this continuing investigation. And that person is specifically Omar Latson."

Police say they believe Latson is intentionally evading arrest, and ask for the communities help in locating him.

Authorities also recovered nine firearms, and almost $100,000 in cash.

Hochul says the more than 22,000 bags of  heroin recovered is more than was seized in Rochester in all of 2015.

Hochul says law enforcement can go after the supply, but that is only one way to address heroin use in the community.

He says they also need the community’s help to identify people who need treatment for heroin and opioid use.
