The University of Rochester Medical Center's Strong Urgent Care opens its doors this afternoon. The facility is in the former Lakeside Memorial Hospital building in Brockport.
"We'll have, initially, limited hours from noon to 7 p.m. We'll take patients with urgent care needs--those with minor injuries, lacerations, colds, sore throats, those types of things," said Dr. Mike Kamali, chair of URMC's Emergency Medicine and director of the urgent care.
URMC plans to open a free-standing, full-service emergency department at the site early next year. There are also plans for an ambulatory surgical center in 2014.
