UR student receives message from professor she was hunger striking against

Lindsay Wrobel

Shortly before the University of Rochester announced Tuesday it would be putting Florian Jaeger on administrative leave, the professor contacted the woman who had been hunger striking against him.

Lindsey Wrobel posted a screenshot of an email to a Facebook group that has become a gathering place for protestors and those supporting her strike.

Wrobel had stopped eating last Thursday at midnight, in response to how the university had been handling allegations of sexual harassment filed against Jaeger. Later on Tuesday, Wrobel  ended her hunger strike.

The email, apparently sent from Jaeger's university account, said he respects her right to protest but urged her to stay safe and healthy while hunger striking.

Jaeger went on to say he hopes Wrobel considers her health so that she may continue to speak her mind and participate in reform efforts, and that those efforts will have to protect "women and everyone else from sexual harassment and discrimination."

He also mentioned a number of derogatory tweets Wrobel received saying he was appalled by those comments.
