UR President & Congresswoman Slaughter React To Officer's Death

Statement from University of Rochester President Joel Seligman on the Death of Officer Daryl Pierson:

University flags will be lowered today and on Friday, Sept. 5 in memory of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, who died in the line of duty on Sept. 3.

“Our thoughts are with Officer Pierson’s family and with the members of the Rochester Police Department during this extremely difficult time.  We honor the life of Officer Pierson for his dedication and service to the Rochester community, and his bravery in protecting its citizens.”

Statement from Congresswoman Louise Slaughter:

“Like so many in our community, I am shocked and heartbroken by the shooting of Rochester City Police Officer Daryl Pierson, who was murdered last night in the line of duty. My condolences go out to his wife, Amy, two young children, family, friends, fellow officers, and all of those who are mourning his loss. We owe a debt of gratitude to Officer Pierson who served his community – and his country in Afghanistan – bravely and honorably and gave his life to protect ours. Please keep the Pierson family in your thoughts and prayers.”

“Less than two years ago, our community was shaken by another act of senseless gun violence against our first responders in West Webster. Easy access to guns has kept our community in constant grief, and we must do more to protect the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to serve our community.”
