UR interim president addresses community ahead of spring semester

As the spring semester gets started, Interim President of University of Rochester Richard Feldman says he hopes the University community can begin a period of healing and rebuilding.

Feldman sent a letter to the University community Sunday welcoming them back to a new semester and a new chapter at UR.

He said his appointment as interim president was unexpected but is a great honor, and that he is eager to do what he can to help the University thrive until a permanent President can be identified.

Feldman went on to say that after the events of the last week -  the public release of the Report of the Independent Investigation and President Seligman’s decision to step down  - UR has an opportunity to be a “model for other institutions, not just in the letter of our policies and procedures but in the spirit of our actions.”

The University Board of Trustees has asked Feldman to begin work immediately on the University’s response to the recommendations in the Report of the Independent Investigation, and he expects that a detailed plan of action will be developed and made public shortly

Feldman is a former dean of the University.
