The University of Rochester has announced rates for tuition and other expenses for the upcoming academic year, and tuition for undergraduates will rise 3.8 percent.  It will rise to $49,260 in the 2016-17 year.

Tuition for the Eastman School of Music will also increase 3.8 percent to $49,600.

Room and board for U of R undergraduates will be $14,818 which is a 3.7 percent increase.

Last year, tuition went up 2.8 percent and room and board went up 4.8 percent.

The commitment to undergraduate financial aid is going up 13.5 percent to $122.2 million.

The university says that more than 86 percent of university undergraduates receive some form of financial aid.

“We very carefully evaluate each year to how to strike the best balance between our costs to students and having the ability to do the things that make our University even stronger. We want to continue to provide students and families the strongest return on their investment in education, while keeping the highly valued Rochester degree accessible and affordable,” said University President and CEO Joel Seligman.

“Providing needed financial assistance to students is an institutional priority, evident through our fundraising emphasis on scholarships in the Meliora Challenge capital campaign. To date, we have raised more than $200 million for scholarships to support deserving students in becoming University of Rochester graduates.”

RIT has also set tuition and other rates for the upcoming academic year. Tuition for undergraduates will be $38,024, up around 3.9 percent.  Room and Board total $12,274, up around 3 percent compared to the current year.

RIT is also planning to give $171 million in aid, an increase of 6.6 percent, for the upcoming academic year.
