Two East High Leadership Posts Filled

Officials with the University of Rochester's Warner School of Education have announced the filling of a couple of leadership posts at East High School. The state recently gave final approval to the plan that will have the U of R supervise East High in an effort to improve its academic performance.

Shaun Nelms, who is now Deputy Superintendent of East High School has named two city school educators to principal positions there. Marlene Blocker, the founding principal of the Rochester Early College International High school, will become East High's principal for the "lower school, " which is grades 6 to 9.

Anibal Soler, the current principal at East, will become principal for the "upper school" which is grades 10 to 12.

The new 9th grade academy will be supported by both principals in an effort to monitor student progress. Nelms will oversee the day-to-day operations of the East High Educational Partnership Organization, which is focused on preparing all students for a successful transition to adulthood.
