Two Alarm Fire In Rochester Injures Two People

Rochester fire officials say one man suffered serious injuries after a two-alarm fire on the west side early Tuesday morning.

Just before 1:00 a.m., firefighters were called to a fire at a two-and-a-half story, two-family home at 170 Myrtle Street, and found the building engulfed in flames.

The fire also started to impact the neighboring house and crews rescued a man from the second floor at 172 Myrtle. He was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Another woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Altogether, there were 8 people home in 2 apartments at 170 Myrtle and everyone else got out safely.

Firefighters worked to keep the fire mostly contained to the initial house so flames wouldn’t consumer the neighboring houses.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the house will be demolished because of the extensive damage.

The Red Cross is helping people affected by the fire.
