More than 4,000 runners got to work up an appetite on Thanksgiving morning for the 44th annual Turkey Trot in Webster. It started in the 1970’s as a practice run for a local cross country team, and the popularity of the event has grown over the years.
“This race is so important because it’s been here since 1972,” said Ellen Brenner-Boutillier of Fleet Feet Sports. “It’s the oldest race in Monroe County. Families just keep coming back year after year,” she told Time Warner Cable News.
On Thursday there were two races, one for two and a half miles and the other for 4.4 miles.
Runners were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Turkey Trot Food Drive.
