A transportation organization that pushes for more money for roads and bridges says that the Rochester area's infrastructure needs a lot of work.
The group called "TRIP," consists of people involved in the highway and construction industry, related unions and other organizations. But its director of Research and Policy, Rocky Moretti, says they pull their data from information available from state and local governments.
“The report shows that 21 percent of Rochester’s pavements are in poor condition, another 6 percent are in mediocre (condition), and as the report points out, repairing roads in poor condition is far more costly than roads that are in mediocre condition or even good condition where they can still be maintained relatively cheaply.”
Moretti says the problems found in Rochester are also found in other parts of the state and the northeast. He says even with the expense of making these repairs, it's cheaper to make the improvements now than wait until things get worse.
The TRIP organization says money being invested in repairing roads and bridges is critical to the health of the state's economy.
